‘I am dull in color. Proud to be a trans woman. This film tells my struggles for identity. I love myself and my body. Nude photography is an art. Love yourself '. Those who were too afraid to reveal their identities to society would be more likely to say those words with confidence. The suffering of a transgender person is beyond the reach of the average person. They were excluded from this society when they were driven out like vultures.
Social media has been following the beautiful pictures of three transgender women for the past few days. The stars are Sheetal Shyam, Ain Honey Arohi and Sweety Bernard. Model and transgender activist Sheetal Shyam and photographer Manoop Chandran talk about living pictures taken by nudity photography.
‘Many people have a curiosity to know what our body is like. Needless to say, especially if we have a trans personality. Below the photo of the dress, there are often comments as to whether it is real or Photoshop. But that is not to change their anxiety. Instead, these films tell the public out loud that this is the body. The human body is full of variety. The trans category is very special in the spectrum of gender. The aim is to present it in many ways.
There is a tendency in the general public to walk behind and be harassed, even if it is a trans after surgery. We recently held a protest in Thrissur. There are a lot of trans women out there. That is, they are women who have had their genitals surgically removed. As they were walking out, two local policemen followed them and harassed them. Aren’t you really male? Isn't it disguised? Do you have menstruation? They ask many questions such as whether they will get pregnant. Transgender people have such a bad experience, even from the so-called educated bureaucracy. So what about ordinary people?
Awareness classes on transgender are conducted for those working in various fields as per the instructions of the government. But experience shows that this does not matter. There is a need to legally deal with bad experiences on the part of those who administer justice. Let someone's body be somehow. But he must be considered a human being. In New Zealand, we applaud when an LGBT person comes to Jacinta's cabinet and when an Indian person comes. Will such changes happen in our country? Such openness is necessary in the hope of bringing about change in politics, family, religion and society. We are moving in the right direction without fear of anyone. Attempts are being made to bring our body, justice and emotions into the public domain through art. Art tells us what our personality is, ”says Sheetal Shyam
Nudity should be seen as art. Manoop Chandran, the photographer of the film, says that the veil of morality should not be added to it. Photography is an art that deals with darkness and light. Manoop says he wanted to launch a product that was different from the others.
Photographer Manoop Chandran says of the color diversity in images: ‘Often our society emphasizes white. Even if you have a baby, the first thing to look for is whether it is black or white. Most of the models were seen trying to whiten if the color was low. Black is a beautiful color. No one should be replaced in the name of color. All my models are white. When I told them that we were using black shade, they agreed when I told them the purpose behind it. The makeup artist did it all in Sprague after the base. Golden is highlighted to highlight that color tone. '
Modeling used to be only for women and men. But that is not the case today. From 2017, transgender people also started entering the modeling scene. We have been carrying out such activities every year. It often receives great acceptance. In addition, transgender people come to events like the Kerala Fashion League. The arrival of transgender people at such fashion events is seen as a big change. Sheetal also says that the huge acceptance of these photos is an indication of the acceptance of trance models by the general public.
